Canon Powershot SD40 Digital ELPH-IXUS i7
Canon Powershot SD40 Digital ELPH/IXUS i7 is their latest consumer point and shoot pocket camera designed to appeal to the fashion concious. The SD40 Digital ELPH-ixus i7 comes in 4 colors and a docking station for easier printing.
For the artists, Powershot SD40 colors include “Twilight Sepia, a dark rich brown with gold accents; Precious Rose, a blushing pink attention-getter; Noble Blue, a shade worthy of the finest designer navy suit and, the soft yet solid sophistication of Olive Grey.”
Main features are a 7.1 megapixel sensor, 2.4x optical zoom (38-90mm equivalent) and a 1.8 inch LCD screen with 15 brightness settings. It uses the same NB-4L battery as the other cameras in the Powershot SD family.
Another feature starting to gain traction is the Face Detection AF/AE system also seen in other new cameras like the Fuji FinePix F31fd compact digital camera.
Canon plans to release the Powershot SD40 Digital ELPH/IXUS i7 in October for $349.99 US MSRP.

Ricoh updates their 6 megapixel R4 digital camera with the R5 7.24 megapixel, 2.5” LCD, ISO 1600 with image stabilization with a wide range 7x zoom equivalent to a 28mm to 200mm lens.
Ricoh is one of the few compact digital camera manufacturers to offer a wide angle 28mm equivalent zoom lens.
Their image stabilization is a CCD shift vibration correction version that detects and compensates for camera shake caused by hand movement.

Following up on the successful Fuji F30 seven months ago, Fuji announced the latest revision, Fuji F31fd today. The only differences from the Finepix F30 are face recognition and IR connectivity. Due for the UK in late November 2006, no price has been set yet.
Pocketlint review the Fuji FinePix F30, the earlier version of this camera. They give the 6.1 megapixel digital camera thumbs up for it’s great build, compact design, fast operation and good image quality. Thumbs down for no optical viewfinder and detail loss at the higher ISO settings.
DCResource’s review of the FinePix F30 concurs mostly with additional comments about the good low light AF assist, many manual camera controls, powerful flash and excellent battery life. Negatives are above average purple fringing and unimpressive continuous shooting mode in addition to the negatives in the pocketlink review.
