Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2

lumix dmc-lx2 digital slr review

The Lumix DMC-LX2 is the successor to the Panasonic wide screen 16:9 format digital camera. Announced in July it is now widely available and the reviews are starting to come in from around the web.

What made the LX1 unique are still around in the DMC-LX2 with some extras in the revision.

The f2.8mm, 4x zoom, 28mm x 112mm equivalent lens is the same but there is now a larger 2.8” 207,000 pixel LCD. Of course Panasonics’ own MEGA O.I.S. antishake system is included. In fact all Lumix cameras now have the MEGA O.I.S. system incorporated. The LUMIX LX2 is also equipped with the world’s first* Intelligent ISO Control (hereafter I.I.C.) within the advanced image processing LSI Venus Engine III.

Panasonic calls this camera triple “wide” because it features three wide functions, 28mm wide angle Leica lens, 16:9 wide CCD and 16:9 LCD.

Panasonic has long called their image processing engine the Venus Engine and with the LUMIX LX2 Panasonic uses the Venus Engine III for noise reduction. Noise was the dealbreaker on ISO speeds higher than 200 on the previous LUMIX LX1 and unfortunately it appears the same problem persists with the DMC-LX2.

The LX2 includes 13mb of internal…

ricoh caplio r5 slr digital camera

Ricoh updates their 6 megapixel R4 digital camera with the R5 7.24 megapixel, 2.5” LCD, ISO 1600 with image stabilization with a wide range 7x zoom equivalent to a 28mm to 200mm lens.

Ricoh is one of the few compact digital camera manufacturers to offer a wide angle 28mm equivalent zoom lens.

Their image stabilization is a CCD shift vibration correction version that detects and compensates for camera shake caused by hand movement.

From the camera manufacturer’s press release.
With its roots based in the solid features of it’s predecessor, the Caplio R5 has been designed to give even more fun and easy photography. Improvements include employing an effective 7.24 megapixel CCD, and achievement of high-sensitivity photography with low noise and edge to edge picture clarity through the New Smooth Imaging Engine II image processing engine(SEⅡ)

Ricoh has traditionally created feature-rich products under a concept of “broadening the range of photography” and the new Caplio R5 is a product that provides enhanced image quality while taking that concept to a higher level through image processing engine innovations and numerous newly developed functions.

Main features of the new Caplio R5:

sony cybershot dsc-t50 camera

Sony introduced the Cybershot DSC-T50 pocket point and shoot camera for a mid October 2006 release.

This camera follows the latest trend of including image stabilization in ultra compact cameras. Some key features:

  • 7.2 megapixels
  • 3 inch LCD touch screen
  • 3x optical zoom
  • 56mb of internal memory
  • Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo for extra storage
  • ISO 1000 speed

Imaging-Resouce has an excellent user’s review of the Sony DSC-T10 pocket digital camera.

I love real world reviews like this; a refreshing change from the dry technical analysis of other reviews with noise graphs and speed charts that give no indication of what real shooting looks and feels like on a camera.

IR gives the Sony DSC-T10 ultra compact digital camera props for being so slim with an excellent feature set and effective image stabilization. Good lens quality, fast shutter speed as most Sony digicams are know for plus a LCD viewable in almost every situation (another Sony quality) and excellent video, battery life and prints round out the good qualities.

Cons include noisy high ISO shots, a stingy 1 sec max exposure time, slow continuous shooting mode, below average white balance, too blue, limited flash range (a common problem on these…
