Pentax K10D DSLR
Pentax released their rumored 10.2 megapixel K10D camera on September 13th. With image stabilization and a waterproof body this a nice rugged number to stand up against the latest Nikon and Canon entries. Geared for the professional user, accessories like a dust proof battery grip and new DA 70mm F2.4 digital SLR lens with ultra-thin pancake design and uni-focal, medium-telephoto optics were also introduced.
The K10D camera body ships November 2006 for US $899.95 and as a kit with a DA 18-55mm lens for US $999.95. The D-BG2 Battery Grip will ship at the same time for less than US $190.00. The PENTAX DA 70mm lens will ship in October 2006 for less than US $600.00.

Fuji created quite a stir when the Finepix F10 first came out last year, appearing as the first compact digital camera with an unheard of ISO 1600 low light capability. Being able to shoot without flash in dim situations quickly made it a best seller.
Fuji quickly followed up with the F20 going up to ISO 2000.
Now with the Finepix F30 Fuji has upped the ante to a Digital SLR speed of ISO 3200. Maintaining the 6 megapixels of the previous model, the F30 maintains the 3x zoom but has a new Super CCD.
Reviews are generally good but still fault the F30’s predisposition to chromatic abberation and as with all pocket cameras the dynamic range is limited compared to a Digital SLR leading to cropped highlights, plus the new ISO 3200 rating is perhaps a bit too ambitious.

Sony Introduces Cybershot DSC-N2 Camera
Sony’s other compact camera introduced today is the DSC-N2. Slightly larger than the DSC-T50 but with 10 megapixels. Housed in a champagne gold casing, the 3x zoom unit comes with 25mb of internal memory.
The DSC-N2 also includes a fast “film” speed of IS0 1600 for low light and fast shooting capability. Fuji started the high ISO speeds for pocket cameras and it’s good to see other manufacturers follow suit.
